White Christmas

My Christmas ski tours got off to a rough start. After fighting through LCC traffic for an hour, I arrived at the top in a van full of already-intoxicated passengers headed to Alta, and Rick, who planned to ski with me. While we were getting ready, I realized that I forgot my boots. So, while Rick got in a few laps, I hitched all the way home, got my boots, cleared off my truck, and drove back up the canyon. On the skin up, I passed Rick who was skiing down because the cold temps stopped his skins from sticking to his skis. So, I pressed on alone and got in a couple laps of full-on over-head blower goodness. The first turn made it all worth it.

For our post-Christmas tour, Jen and I headed back up to a very packed LCC, but I had my boots this time. The previous day’s storm skiing gave way to bluebird skies and snow that was getting heavier by the minute on the sun-exposed aspects. It may not have been the world-class powder runs from the day before, but it was a pretty good day out.
