Bellingham

On the way up north, Jen and I stopped in to visit our friends Toni and Misty, catch up, share stories about back in the day when we used to see them all the time, and sample their local trails. It was wet. Really wet. But the nice thing about the PNW is that you can actually ride in these conditions without damaging the trail.

So, we cast off into the mist, and did out best to stay off the brakes on the slippery routes. The trail scene in Bellingham is the way I wish Salt Lake City was. Lots of riders, lots of trails, and lots of variety so you can push yourself as much as you want. Smooth single track with berms? Yeah, there’s plenty of that. Easy Tech? Sure. Super sketchy tech that a solid rider would be happy to clean? Definitely. Massive gaps that I’d never even consider hitting. Oh yeah, they have a ton of those.

Basically, in Salt Lake, I often run out of motivation to ride because I find the trails there honestly a bit boring. Here (and pretty much everywhere North of here) there’s enough difficulty and variety to keep a rider of any level happy. And it actually rains, which is nice too.

Jen headed to Upper Scorpion, Das Autoban, Unemployment Line, Radical Dragon.
Staying light on the brakes.
Sloppy berms.
They do not mess around with trail signs here.
Murphy was beyond stoked.
