Going North

On Wednesday morning, Jen and I woke up, rolled up a pair of sleeping pads, locked the back door, and left her house for the last time. Everything we own is either in the back of my truck or in one of several portable storage containers. When we get back from the Canadian Rockies in a couple weeks we’ll be moving into a new house near the base of Little Cottonwood Canyon.

After driving 13-hours North, we’ve spent the last couple days doing family things since everyone is gathered in Canmore to see her cousin Dan get married. In this case, family things pretty much means a bunch of eating, drinking, and hiking. Usually I hold a serious dislike for any hiking that doesn’t lead to some climbing, but the trails around here lead to some pretty damn cool places, and the hikes have served as a good warmup for the second leg of our trip that’s soon to start.

Tomorrow we head up the Icefields Parkway to see if Jen likes alpine climbing or not.
