Lake Tahoe Dirt

After Yosemite, Jen and I decided to switch it up a bit and spend a few days riding bikes. Plus, Murphy really needed a good run. So, we went up to South Lake Tahoe to sample a couple trails. We ended up doing the Christmas Valley Trail and Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, both of which were excellent.

The riding around here is extremely good, and very unique compared to most of the places I’ve ridden. It has some of the sidewalk-smooth singletrack that you find in the Wasatch with lots of excellent rock features straight out of the North Shore. This makes the trails an interesting mix of easy enough that any intermediate rider could ride them, but also with enough options that really good riders can have a really good time. Not to mention the fact that this place is absolutely beautiful, which never hurts.

The burned trees from the last fire are showing signs of new life.

Murphy was so stoked.
More interesting rock features.
This lake was off a spur from the main trail. We found not a single person there when we arrived.
…so I got to strip down and go for a swim.
Heading up to Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride.
They’re not Squamish-level trail signs. But they’re pretty good.
Into the burn area after all the technical parts of the trail.
Burned trees and new life.
Finishing off a couple good days.
