The Stoke

After our day in the mountains, Jen and I went up to Jasper to chill out for a little while before driving over Rogers pass and into Revelstoke. We met up with my good friend Grant, who moved up to Canada a couple years ago to essentially ski and ride bikes all the time. It seems to be working out pretty well for him.

The trails around Revelstoke are absolutely amazing. Logging roads give access to miles (those are like kilometers, but longer) of single track through deep loam in the trees and then alpine tundra once you get a bit higher. You can’t look any direction without seeing endless peaks and glaciers. It’s without a doubt the most beautiful place I’ve ever ridden a bike, and the trails themselves aren’t too bad either. The local bike crew pays three people to build trail full time during the summer months, so the network of riding is expanding faster than the local maps can keep up with.

Jen and I rode two amazing alpine trails on our first two days there and thought that we had already seen the best this place has to offer. But Grant, being the incredibly nice guy that he is, insisted on shuttling us on Sale Martha, which easily rivals the best tech trails I’ve ever been on and goes for thousands of feet all the way to the river. After that we drove up another logging road and Jen gave Grant and me a shuttle on Lost Boys, which is basically ever rock slab I’ve ever ridden down all rolled into the same trail. I have to admit that I felt a bit naked without a full-face on this one, but it was so much fun I stopped caring. After a quick snack Grant and I met up with the local crew for a Pedal and Pint, which they do every Thursday night. We then rode 8K out to Macpherson where the locals proceeded to ride me straight into the ground over the next three hours and well into the night. Then, as the name of would imply, we drank.

And when we got up in the morning we drove two days and arrived at an empty house with everything we own in storage containers in the driveway.
