To The Desert

Tiring out Jasmine was a top priority, so we started the weekend with a Captain Ahab loop, which is definitely one of our favorite trails. Last fall Jen was riding a bike better than she ever did before, and it turns out she hasn’t missed a step over the winter either. There were five sections of the trail that Jen had never managed to clean before. For some of them, she had done the in-run on several separate trips but never committed to the line. On this trip, her first time on a bike in several months, she cleaned all five. It was damn impressive to watch, and I was really psyched for her.

I was pretty psyched for Jasmine too, who rolled in the stream at the bottom of the trail like Scrooge McDuck rolling in a pile of money. As for me, I was just happy to be back in the desert, sitting under the kind of star-filled sky that you just don’t get to see in most other places. It’s amazing how something as simple as sleeping in a van and hanging out by a campfire can make a long week of work seem like it never happened.
