The Early Bird Gets Fresh Tracks

When I walked out of the house in the pre-dawn dark, I was happily surprised to see a few inches of classy ultralight Utah powder covering my truck. Higher in the canyon, the new snow got deeper and better. Jamon and I were the first ones up the Mill D skin track, and after a mellow skin through spaced aspens in temperatures that felt tropical (18F compared to Tuesday morning’s -6F), we topped out, peeled skins, and dropped in on some fantastic skiing just as it was light enough to ditch the headlamps.

I don’t exactly know what it was about the skiing today, but neither of us could stop laughing the entire time. This was exactly the kind of morning that makes the early alarm worth every second of lost sleep.
