Last Day of 2018

A nice storm over the last couple days made sure that the last ski tour of 2018 would be a good one no matter where we went, but things turned out even better than expected. On the way up Flagstaff to ski some Days Fork laps, Hunter mentioned that he had never skied the Hallway Couloir. So I said “Well shit, let’s go do it.” Sure, it dropped us in the wrong canyon and many miles from our car, but it’s one of the best runs in the Wasatch, and I’m not one to pass up a chance to ski something so good.

So, after a quick lap in Days and skinning back to the ridge, I started the search for the illusive entrance. Turns out I messed it up on the first go, and we had to boot pack up a couple hundred feet. But, on the second attempt I managed to get it right, and we dropped in on nearly 2,000 feet of amazing untracked powder. I’ve been down this thing a few times now, but I’ve never had the chance to lay first tracks, and it was amazing.

Hunter headed up.

This is not the Hallway, but the small couloir above it. This goes with enough snow, but not today.

Headed back up.

This is the Hallway.

Hunter throwing snow across an amazing landscape.

The snow was so good.

Hunter opening it up at the bottom.

It was all smiles after that line.

Starting the three-car hitchhike expedition back to our vehicle.
