Lake City

After Canada, Jen and I drove south to Colorado, visiting a good friend and some fam on the way. Then we turned West and made our way to Lake City.

I went ice climbing in Lake City about a decade ago, and they have drastically grown the ice park since then. I actually like it much better than Ouray. Less people, super easy access, more steep lines, and you can camp in the parking lot.

Plus, since they don’t shut off the water and there are relatively few people, the climbs don’t become picked-out hook fests. You can do the same line on back to back days and it’s drastically different.

And, Murphy can hang out, which is pretty sweet.

Not normal ice park ice.
Lots of interesting features.
The view from our camp spot for five days.
Jen and Murphy checking out the warming hut.
Murphy scoping the ice.
Jen on what turned out to be one of the most difficult pitches of the winter.
This is as busy as it ever got. Full send on Saturday.
Jen stretching for a rest.
More steep ice.
Last lead before leaving.
Jen having the place to herself on a Monday.
Murphy chilling.
