Cody

Cody is one of those places I’ve wanted to check out for a long time, but just never really got around to. So, when Matt brought up the idea I jumped on the chance to get the tour from someone who had been there a few times before.

This place did not disappoint. It’s massive, beautiful, full of animal life, and contains some of the most amazing ice lines I’ve ever seen. For some of these lines, the entry fee comes in the form of a serious approach, but being surrounded by such an amazing landscape, not to mention herds of deer and big horn sheep makes the time fly by.

My biggest take-away from the trip was that three days is just not enough time. We climbed a classic every day and didn’t even scratch the surface. I’ll be coming back here for sure.

Big Horn Sheep on the approach to our first climb. Not a bad way to start the trip.

Always stoked.
Looking down at the belay from the end of the business.
Matt following the second pitch.
Leading out of a handy cave belay.
Barely Legal and Legal at Last. Alex Lowe was such a beast.
In awe on the hike out.
Crossing the river on day two.
Matt approaching High On Boulder (WI4).
Cruising up the first easy pitch.
Matt on the second pitch.
Save It For Later (WI3+).
Big ice everywhere, even on the hike out.
Back to the van as the snow storm rolls in.
Too Cold To Fire (WI4) was a bit warm on top.
Back up those V-threads kids.
Hiking up Deer Creek to check out rumors.
Yup, this place is pretty amazing.
The constant debate—do you deal with crampons on the rock, or bare boots on the ice?
